Julius Berger resumes Abuja Centenary City project after 11 years

Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has resumed work on the Abuja Centenary City project, ending an 11-year break with the signing of a contract to deliver Phase 1 of the development’s primary infrastructure.

Launched in 2014, Centenary City was conceived as a modern lifestyle and investment hub to showcase Nigeria’s vision for the new century.

The project includes luxury hotels, high-end residences, an international commerce centre, a convention centre, the Mall of Africa, and a championship golf course.

Speaking at the contract signing, Managing Director of Abuja Centenary City, Dr. Odenigwe Ike Michaels, said Julius Berger was chosen for its track record of delivering quality on major projects.

“Today’s event marks the official resumption of construction after more than a decade. Julius Berger’s reputation speaks for itself, and I challenge the company to surpass its own records in project delivery,” Michaels said.

Describing the city as Abuja’s foremost urban renewal initiative, he noted that it is designed to attract global investment and establish Nigeria as a centre for world-class living and commerce.

In his remarks, Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Peer Lubasch, said the project represents “an investment in the future of Abuja and the Federal Capital Territory.”

He explained that the company’s first task under the new contract is a 4.31 km international-standard dual carriageway with utilities, which he described as “the first major artery of this great city and the foundation for its growth.”

Lubasch added that Julius Berger’s relationship with Centenary City dates back to its launch in 2014, and that the company remains committed to delivering infrastructure that meets world-class standards.

“With over 60 years of experience, Julius Berger will bring precision, quality, and commitment to ensure this project endures. When this first road is completed, it will inspire confidence in residents, investors, and businesses that Centenary City is built on a solid foundation,” he said.
