JUST IN: Explosion at Kaduna’s DICON Factory Kills Two, Injures Four

Two people, including a military officer, were killed and four others injured on Saturday after an explosion rocked the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in Kaduna.

The incident occurred during a weekend shift at the facility in Kurmin Gwari, reportedly while gunpowder materials were being produced.

The blast sent shockwaves across surrounding neighbourhoods, shaking buildings and forcing residents to flee in panic.

“I heard a very big blast; it shook the surrounding buildings. People were running from the area. At first, we thought it was a bomb, but later learnt it came from the factory,” a resident told reporters.

The injured workers were initially taken to St. Gerard Catholic Hospital in Kakuri before being transferred to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital for further treatment.

An eyewitness who assisted in evacuating victims said the explosion stemmed from primer powder used in arms production. “It killed a military officer instantly, along with a civilian worker, while four others were critically injured,” he said.

As of press time, DICON management had yet to issue an official statement.
