Kaduna Woman Arrested for Feeding Co-Wife’s Baby Acid

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a housewife, Zaliha Shuaibu, for allegedly poisoning her co-wife’s three-month-old baby by feeding him acid in Malari village, Soba Local Government Area.

The tragic incident occurred on May 13, 2025, within the family compound shared by the suspect, her husband, and the baby’s mother, Maryam Ibrahim.

Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest in a statement released to reporters on Friday.

He explained that the suspect was apprehended following a prompt investigation led by the Divisional Police Officer of Soba Division.

According to the police, the incident began when Maryam left her baby alone in the room to use the bathroom.

When she returned, she found the infant in the arms of Zaliha.

“Zaliha handed the baby back to Maryam, who immediately noticed that the child was in distress, foaming at the mouth with a visible wound on his neck,” ASP Hassan said.

The baby was rushed to a nearby village hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the Soba Division DPO quickly mobilized his team and arrested Zaliha Shuaibu.

During interrogation, she admitted to feeding the baby acid with assistance from her husband’s younger brother, Lawal Muhammad, who is currently at large.

ASP Hassan revealed that Zaliha confessed Lawal supplied the acid used in the attack.

Kaduna State Police Commissioner, CP Rabiu Muhammad, assured the public that the investigation is ongoing, promising that all involved will face justice.
