Kano Hisbah to Sponsor Weddings of Repentant Thugs Who Surrendered Weapons

the Kano State Hisbah Board has announced plans to sponsor the weddings of repentant thugs who voluntarily surrendered their weapons and pledged to abandon violence.
The initiative was unveiled on Wednesday by the Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, following the renunciation of crime by over 1,000 youths in the state. According to him, the programme is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s broader agenda to reform and reintegrate youths who were once involved in criminal activities but have now chosen to embrace a decent lifestyle.
“Sheikh Daurawa emphasized that the opportunity is strictly for those who have genuinely repented, warning that the government and security agencies will not condone insincerity. ‘We will not tolerate those who pretend to repent just to benefit from this initiative. This programme is for genuine change,’ he stressed.”
During a screening exercise held at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, commended the development, describing it as a courageous approach to addressing insecurity through rehabilitation rather than punishment alone.
The governor noted that supporting repentant youths to settle down and start families will not only reduce the temptation of returning to crime but also promote stability in society. “This is not just about marriage; it is about helping these young men find purpose, responsibility, and dignity in life,” he said.
Observers believe the initiative could serve as a model for other states battling youth restiveness and thuggery, especially in northern Nigeria, where unemployment and political manipulation often drive young men into violent activities.
