Kebbi Government Moves to Boost School Security After Abduction of 25 Female Students

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has assured parents of secondary school students that his administration is taking concrete steps to strengthen security around post-primary schools across the state.

The governor said consultations have commenced with key stakeholders to review and reinforce existing school security protocols. According to him, the engagements involve security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, education experts, and security consultants.

The move follows the recent abduction of 25 female students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, an incident the governor described as disturbing and unacceptable.

Speaking through his deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Kebbi State Qur’anic Recitation on Friday, Idris urged parents to remain calm while security arrangements are being reassessed.

He stated that schools would not be reopened until all measures put in place are deemed sufficient to guarantee the safety of students and staff.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting educational institutions and noted that efforts were ongoing at both state and federal levels to tackle insecurity. He expressed confidence that improved coordination among security agencies would help curb banditry in the state.

The state government added that schools would resume only after security assessments are concluded and officially approved.
