King’s College Pupils Recovering from Diphtheria, Set for Discharge Soon – LUTH CMD
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Dr. Wasiu Adeyemo, has confirmed that the King’s College Annex pupils admitted for diphtheria treatment will soon be discharged.
Speaking to reporters in Lagos, Adeyemo assured that the students’ health conditions had improved.

A recent diphtheria outbreak at the school led to the tragic death of one pupil, while others were rushed to LUTH for treatment. Reports indicate that the disease had been present in the college since late 2024.
Diphtheria, caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae, is a highly contagious bacterial infection that spreads through direct contact.
Adeyemo stated, “As they are now medically fit to be discharged,” but noted that the hospital is keeping them under observation to ensure full recovery before they leave.
