Kogi PDP Aspirant Blasts INEC Over Delay in Okura Bye-Election, Demands Urgent Action
Aspirant for the Kogi State House of Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Joseph Egene, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to end the prolonged delay in conducting the bye-election for Okura Constituency.
While addressing journalists in Anyigba, Egene expressed serious concern over the Commission’s inaction, even after the expiration of the 90-day constitutional timeframe to organise the bye-election. The poll became necessary following the death of the former representative, Enema Paul.
He lamented that the legislative seat has remained vacant for nearly five months, effectively leaving the constituents without a voice in the House.
“This delay has thrown the people of Okura into political limbo. We are no longer comfortable with INEC’s silence. The Commission must fulfil its constitutional duty by setting a date for the election,” Egene said.

Egene stressed that the lack of representation has deprived Okura residents of participation in key legislative decisions and governance at the state level.
He called on civil society organisations, electoral stakeholders and the general public to pressure INEC into restoring democratic representation for the people of Okura.
He concluded by emphasizing that the people deserve to have their voices heard, their rights upheld and the bye-election conducted without further delay.
