Kogi SWAN Urges Kano Government to Immortalise Fallen Athletes

The Kogi State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has appealed to the Kano State Government to immortalise the 21 athletes and officials from Kano who tragically lost their lives in a road accident while returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by Acting Secretary Olatunde Odimayo, Kogi SWAN described the incident as deeply painful and a devastating loss to the nation’s sports community.
While expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Kano State Government, and SWAN in Kano, the association lamented the loss of young and promising individuals committed to representing their state with pride on both national and international stages.
“We are deeply traumatised by this tragic incident,” the statement read. “Information available to us shows that these were vibrant and determined individuals, full of potential, who had dedicated themselves to making Kano State proud.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families in this extremely difficult time. We therefore call on the Kano State Government to urgently honour their memory and sacrifice by immortalising these fallen heroes.”
