Lafia on Lockdown as President Tinubu Visits Nasarawa to Commission Key Projects

Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State, came to a standstill on Tuesday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in the state to commission major infrastructure projects executed by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

In preparation for the presidential visit, both public and private schools in Lafia metropolis were shut down, keeping students at home despite no formal public holiday being declared. Many civil servants and business owners also stayed away from work, effectively grounding activities in the city.

Our correspondent reports that hundreds of enthusiastic residents, including schoolchildren and political supporters, lined the streets for hours awaiting the president’s arrival. At the time of this report, President Tinubu had not yet landed in Lafia, but arrangements for his welcome were well underway.

In a rare weather twist, the usually hot and sunny Lafia experienced a cool, cloudy atmosphere, offering some relief to the waiting crowd.

Security was tight throughout the city. Movement in and out of Lafia was heavily restricted, and security operatives were stationed across major routes. Reports emerged of commercial motorcyclists being harassed and brutalized for attempting to breach restricted areas.

President Tinubu’s visit is seen as politically significant for the state, as it underscores a strong partnership between the federal and Nasarawa State governments. He is expected to commission several completed infrastructure projects during the trip.
