Lagos, Diageo Partner to Train 500 Youths in Hospitality Skills

Lagos State and Diageo Nigeria have joined forces to empower 500 young people through a free skills acquisition programme under the Learning for Life initiative.
The Managing Director of Diageo Nigeria, Bayo Ali, and the Director of Programmes at the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Oyindamola Egbeyemi, formalised the partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Speaking at the ceremony, the Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe—who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu—commended Diageo for the initiative and reiterated the state’s full support. He announced that the number of beneficiaries has increased from 250 to 500, in line with the governor’s directive.
Learning for Life is a Diageo-led programme designed to equip unemployed and underprivileged Nigerian youths with skills relevant to the hospitality industry. The initiative includes classroom-based learning, internship opportunities, and job placement support.
Participants will receive training in key areas such as hospitality operations, communication, teamwork, bar and table service, budgeting, CV writing, and job readiness.
The programme also integrates modules on gender and disability inclusion, workplace harassment, and positive mindset development.
The training spans 12 weeks—beginning with a one-week classroom session followed by an 11-week internship—to provide hands-on experience alongside theoretical learning.
