Lagos Groups Reject Seyi Tinubu, Endorse Minister Tunji Alausa for 2027 Governorship
Two prominent Lagos-based groups, the League of Concerned Lagosians (LCL) and the Good Governance Initiative (GGI), have declined to support Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, for the 2027 Lagos governorship election. Instead, they have thrown their weight behind the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, citing his capacity to advance Tinubu’s visionary legacy in the state.
In a statement issued by LCL’s spokesperson, Oladipo Wahab, the group emphasized Alausa’s qualifications as a Chicago-trained medical doctor and his current ministerial role, describing him as the right candidate to drive development in Lagos. The statement, titled “Alausa: Save Lagos Now,” read: “He possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to attract contemporary developments that would complement Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the state.”
LCL also commended President Tinubu’s ongoing economic reforms, urging Nigerians to be patient as the positive impact of these initiatives unfolds.

Similarly, the General Secretary of the Good Governance Initiative, Mr. Wale Olushoga, announced his group’s endorsement of Alausa, aligning with LCL’s position.
Meanwhile, speculation over Seyi Tinubu’s potential governorship bid has sparked mixed reactions among Lagosians. While some groups oppose his candidacy, the Association of Arewa Yoruba Youths (AAYY) defended his right to contest, stating that Seyi Tinubu is constitutionally qualified to seek any elective position, like any other Nigerian citizen.
