Lagos Hairdresser Loses Six Teeth in Alleged Assault by Lover

The family of a 27-year-old Lagos-based hairdresser, simply identified as Fatima, has raised concerns after she was allegedly assaulted by her lover, resulting in the loss of six of her teeth.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, July 12, at the couple’s residence on Ibadan Street in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State, following a heated argument that escalated into violence.

A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told FCNN that they were informed of Fatima’s hospitalisation by a neighbour, initially unaware of the cause.

“We were told she was in the hospital. It wasn’t until someone we sent to check on her came back with details that we realised she had been assaulted. We were shocked when pictures revealed she had lost several teeth,” the source said.

The incident was reported at the Denton Police Station by one of her cousins, leading to the suspect’s arrest. However, he was later released, allegedly at the insistence of the victim.

A resident, identified only as Adetunji, revealed that Fatima, who hails from Kwara State, had endured repeated physical abuse from the same man.

“This isn’t the first time. We’ve witnessed several instances of abuse. Unfortunately, she keeps returning to him. Even after this brutal incident, she pleaded for his release,” he said.

Another source confirmed that Fatima is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and has been fitted with temporary dental braces pending reconstructive surgery scheduled for August 15.

Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone went unanswered, and a text message sent to him had not been replied to as of the time of filing this report.
