Lagos IPAC Urges Obasa to Embrace Peace Amid Assembly Crisis

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Lagos State has called on impeached Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, to give peace a chance.

The state’s IPAC Chairperson, Mrs. Temilola Akinade, made the appeal during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday.

The speakership crisis erupted on January 13 when 32 out of the 40-member assembly voted to remove Obasa and installed then-Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda in his place.

The situation worsened on Monday when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and armed police officers sealed off the offices of the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker, as well as the legislative chamber.

Akinade condemned the disruption, stating that the umbrella body of political parties in the state was “embarrassed by the latest development that interrupted the legislative process.”

She described the suspension of legislative activities over leadership tussles as “unacceptable.”

The crisis has continued to fuel political tensions in Lagos, with stakeholders calling for a resolution to restore stability in the assembly.
