Kidnappers of ex-NYSC DG demand N250m ransom

The bandits who kidnapped Brig-Gen. Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have reached out to his family, demanding N250 million as ransom.

Tsiga was abducted from his country home at Tsiga, Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday as Nine other residents of the village were abducted during the raid.

According to a family source who pleaded not to be named the bandits called on the phone to make the ransom demand.

However, the State Police Command said on Friday that it was on top of the situation and was working in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders and other security agencies in the state.

Abubakar Sadiq, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, explained that information about the bandits’ operation reached the Bakori Divisional Police Headquarters at about 0530 hours on the fateful day and security operatives were immediately deployed to the scene on rescue mission.

“Unfortunately, before the arrival of the operatives, the hoodlums had already accomplished their mission,” Sadiq said.

Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, the House of Representatives member from the area, said the gunmen, after surrounding the general’s house, began to break doors; a situation that prompted the General to come out and ask them what they were looking for.

Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna and Kebbi states, all in the North West Zone, have been facing terrorist attack for several years now.

The bandits who kidnapped residents operate from camps in a huge forest close to Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Niger states.
