Lagos, Osun, Ogun Lead Online Voter Registration as South East Lags Behind

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released fresh statistics on the ongoing online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), showing Lagos, Osun, and Ogun states topping the registration chart ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The data, published on Monday, revealed that Osun leads with 393,269 registrants, representing 28.51 percent of the total, followed by Lagos with 222,205 (16.11 percent), Ogun with 132,823 (9.63 percent), and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 107,682 (7.81 percent).

At the bottom of the table are four states from the South East. Ebonyi recorded the lowest number with just 261 registrants (0.02 percent), followed by Imo with 481 (0.03 percent), Enugu with 484 (0.04 percent), while Abia recorded the highest in the region with 772 (0.06 percent). Collectively, the South East states accounted for only 1,998 registrations.

A geopolitical breakdown shows the South West dominating with 848,359 registrants, followed by the North Central (including the FCT) with 250,218. The North West came next with 141,349, while the North East recorded 77,653. The South-South followed with 59,676, while the South East trailed with 1,998.

INEC also disclosed that about 27,089 persons with disabilities have registered online.

According to a statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun:

“The nationwide online pre-registration of voters commenced on Monday 18th August 2025. As at yesterday, Sunday 24th August 2025, a total of 1,379,342 Nigerians registered nationwide in just one week.

“As promised, the Commission is glad to publish the first weekly update of the exercise by providing details of the registration by state, gender, age, occupation and disability.

“The breakdown of the online pre-registrations shows that 661,846 (47.96%) are male and 717,856 (52.04%) are female. Young people between the ages of 18 and 34 constitute the majority of the registrants with 860,286 (62.37%).

“In terms of occupation, 374,534 (27.15%) are students while the figure for persons with disability is 27,089 (1.96%). Full details have been published on our website and other official platforms for public information.”

With over 1.3 million Nigerians registered in just one week, INEC says the momentum is expected to increase as in-person registration begins in the coming weeks.
