Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old painter, Chigozie Clement, for allegedly abducting his customer’s seven-year-old son in the Ketu-Alapere area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, Clement reportedly lured the boy away from home on Monday before contacting the victim’s mother to demand ₦7 million ransom.
The boy’s father immediately reported the matter to the Alapere Police Division, after which the case was transferred to the command’s Special Squad I for discreet investigation.
“On August 25, 2025, the victim’s father reported that his son had been taken away by his painter. Shortly after, the suspect called the victim’s mother, demanding ₦7,000,000 as ransom. On August 27, detectives traced the suspect to Ijegun, Lagos, where he was arrested and the child rescued unhurt from a locked room,” the statement read.
Hundeyin disclosed that Clement confessed during interrogation, admitting he turned to kidnapping in a bid to raise money for his personal needs.
The police said the suspect would be charged to court soon, while further investigations were ongoing to ascertain whether he had accomplices.
