Lagos Police Nab Murder Suspect in Kogi, Recover Stolen Toyota Sienna
Homicide detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspect, Abubakar Iliyasu, in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old woman, Mrs. Jane Okoye. The arrest was made in Ankpa, Kogi State, weeks after the crime was committed in Orile Iganmu, Lagos.
The suspect allegedly broke into the victim’s home on April 2, where Mrs. Okoye was found unconscious and her personal belongings, including a Toyota Sienna, were discovered missing. She was rushed to a medical facility but later died.
According to the spokesperson for the Lagos Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Iliyasu had forcibly entered the woman’s residence and fled with her vehicle.
“The victim was found unconscious and taken to a medical facility, where she later passed on.
“Following the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Yaba, for discreet and thorough investigation, a team of homicide detectives promptly swung into action, deploying both intelligence and technical resources to get the suspect apprehended and recover the stolen property.
“Efforts of the detectives yielded positive results as the principal suspect, Abubakar Iliyasu, who had absconded with the deceased’s vehicle and other personal items, was traced to and arrested in Ankpa, Kogi State.
“The vehicle was recovered in good condition and has since been secured as evidence in the ongoing investigation,” said Hundeyin.
Hundeyin further confirmed that the suspect is being held at the SCID in Panti and is currently cooperating with investigators.

“He emphasised that the command remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property in Lagos State,” Hundeyin added.
The development has drawn attention to the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle violent crimes and restore public confidence in the justice system.
