Lagos skit maker hacked to death by suspected cultists

Fear gripped residents of the Lakowe community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State after a skit maker and hairstylist, identified simply as Austin, was gruesomely murdered by suspected cultists.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, when the assailants stormed the area in search of the victim. Upon locating his apartment, they allegedly dragged him out and hacked him to death, severing one of his hands in the process.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the community initially heard commotion but only discovered later that it was connected to Austin’s death.

“We heard some noise early in the morning, but no one knew what it was about. It wasn’t until later that we found Austin’s body with his hand cut off. That was when we realised what the noise was,” the resident said.

Sources disclosed that Austin had posted a cryptic farewell message on his WhatsApp status two days earlier, suggesting he might have anticipated the attack.

Another resident described him as a well-known hairstylist who also gained popularity as a skit maker with links to several entertainers.

A video obtained by our correspondent showed the lifeless body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood as sympathisers gathered at the scene.

Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, proved abortive as calls and text messages to his phone went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
