Lagos State Disburses ₦443m Death Benefits to Families of Deceased Workers
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has approved the disbursement of ₦443 million as death benefits to the families of 132 deceased workers from local government councils and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The funds were presented to beneficiaries through insurance certificates at a ceremony held in the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development’s conference room in Alausa-Ikeja. The event was overseen by the Commissioner, Bolaji Robert, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa.
Speaking at the presentation, the commissioner emphasized:
‘‘The gesture by the governor is proof he prioritises workers’ welfare. This disbursement is a commensuration for the quality service offered by the civil servants.’’
He also encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely and urged desk officers to maintain proper documentation to ensure a seamless process for future disbursements.
“We recognise no amount of financial compensation can replace the love, care, and companionship of departed loved ones. However, we hope these benefits will provide some comfort, financial security, and support,” Robert added.
The Director of Local Government Administration, Rasak Amodu, speaking on behalf of Mrs. Bolarinwa, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s consistent approval of the benefits, which ensures bereaved families receive financial support during difficult times.
Mrs. Bolarinwa expressed appreciation to the partnering insurance firms, LASACO and Haggai, for their collaboration in ensuring prompt disbursement to beneficiaries.
SUBEB Chairman, Hakeem Babatunde-Shittu, represented by the Director of Pensions, Mrs. Taibat Olona, noted that the ceremony was not only a fulfillment of the government’s promises but also a tribute to the dedication of the departed workers who contributed to building a greater Lagos.
