Lagos state gov closes Ladipo market over indiscriminate refuse disposal
The Lagos State Government has shut down Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road due to repeated environmental breaches.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development in a post shared on 𝕏 on Sunday.
FCNN reports that the market, located on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, was sealed after authorities observed indiscriminate waste disposal on roads and illegal street trading actiities.
The closure was carried out by the Lagos taskforce, which continues to enforce the state’s environmental laws.
The government has warned that such actions are necessary to maintain public health, safety, and cleanliness across Lagos.
Ladipo Market has previously been sanctioned for similar offenses but was reopened after meeting required sanitation and waste management standards.
Officials stated that markets in Lagos must strictly follow environmental rules to prevent hazards and disorder.
Wahab wrote: “Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions, indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading.”.
