Lagos Unveils Nigeria’s First Local Government-Owned Radio Station

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated Nigeria’s first radio station established and managed by a local government authority.
The groundbreaking station, Ishokan 106.7 FM, is situated in Mushin Local Government and signifies a major step in enhancing grassroots communication.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu commissioned the station as part of several infrastructure and legacy projects spearheaded by the Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye. The commissioning ceremony was held on Oliyide Street in Mushin.
In a statement shared on the official Facebook page of the Lagos State Government, Sanwo-Olu praised the initiative, calling it “commendable and worthy of replication across other local government areas.”
He stated:“It’s important to maintain open channels of communication with our people. The establishment of this radio station, alongside other key projects like the consolidation of federal agencies under one roof, construction of roads, and development of markets, reflects strong and focused leadership. These are the kinds of accomplishments even some states struggle to deliver.”
The Governor highlighted that Lagos State continues to record progress under the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing ongoing projects in primary healthcare, education, and public infrastructure.
He further encouraged residents to support these developments by participating in the democratic process, stressing the importance of voter registration:
“To fully uphold the President’s mandate and sustain national reforms, every eligible citizen must possess a voter’s card. Those yet to register should take advantage of the next registration exercise, as the future of our country depends on inclusive political participation.”
