Leadway marks 55 years of innovation and impact

Leadway, one of Nigeria’s leading non-banking financial services and wellbeing companies, is celebrating 55 years of innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth across West Africa.

The Group Managing Director of Leadway Holdings, Tunde Hassan-Odukale, said the company, founded in 1970 as an insurance firm, has evolved into a diversified group driving financial inclusion, access, and wellbeing for individuals and businesses in the region.

According to him, Leadway’s portfolio now cuts across life and general insurance, health coverage, pensions, asset and wealth management, estate planning, hospitality, and credit solutions—empowering millions to build secure financial futures.

“Leadway’s journey mirrors Nigeria’s own story—one of resilience, diversity, and progress,” Hassan-Odukale said. “We began with a mission to provide financial protection and freedom through risk management, and over time, we have built a holistic ecosystem encompassing insurance, pensions, health, investments, trusteeship, and hospitality.”

He noted that the company’s longevity is a reflection of its commitment to excellence and trust. Between 2016 and 2024, Leadway paid nearly ₦500 billion in claims, including ₦117 billion in 2024 alone—cementing its reputation as Nigeria’s most consistent claims-paying insurer.

Through its HMO subsidiary, Leadway provides quality healthcare to millions of Nigerians via a network of over 2,500 hospitals nationwide. The group’s Pension and Asset Management arms also continue to help Nigerians secure their financial futures.

Beyond Nigeria, Leadway has extended its operations into Côte d’Ivoire, reinforcing its leadership position in Francophone West Africa through Leadway Assurance, Ankara Services, and Leadway IARD.

Hassan-Odukale added that the group’s legacy also includes several social and creative initiatives. Its Leadway Media Dash project offers young entrepreneurs and SMEs visibility by showcasing their businesses on Leadway-owned media platforms.

The company’s long-standing partnership with the Lagos International Trade Fair underscores its support for commerce and enterprise, while its sponsorship of events like the Lagos Leather Fair, the Nigerian Pavilion at the London Design Biennale, the +234 Art Fair, and the Creative Bloc Carnival highlights its investment in Nigeria’s creative economy.

“As we celebrate 55 years, we reflect on a journey defined by trust, innovation, and impact,” Hassan-Odukale said. “Looking ahead, our vision is to build Africa’s foremost financial and wellbeing powerhouse—digital-first, people-focused, and globally competitive. Our past inspires us, but it is the future that drives us.”
