Makinde Appoints 45 Permanent Secretaries, Restructures Key Sectors in Oyo State

Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of 45 new Permanent Secretaries and three Executive Secretaries across various sectors in Oyo State.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, through a statement referencing a document signed by the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni.

The appointments include roles across the civil service, education, health, local government, and other critical sectors. Notably, seven Permanent Secretaries were assigned to the local government sector, marking a significant shift from previous practices.

“This new set of appointments is unique and a clear break from the norm where the mainstream civil servants enjoy the virtual monopoly of being appointed as Permanent Secretaries,” Oyelade stated. He emphasized that the local government sector has seen an unprecedented increase in appointments under Governor Makinde’s administration.

In addition, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) will now have zonal Executive Secretaries, while the health sector will see Permanent Secretaries managing zones instead of the traditional Heads of Hospitals.

The Commissioner also highlighted the state’s commitment to workers’ welfare, noting that over 23,000 workers have been recruited, with over ₦143 billion allocated annually for salaries starting this month, placing Oyo among the leading states in worker welfare nationwide.
