Kano Governor Condemns Killing of Two Kano Indigenes in Makurdi
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has strongly condemned the killing of two young Kano indigenes, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, who were murdered in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, in what he described as a “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable” act of violence.
The victims were reportedly profiled and attacked at about 11:00 p.m. on Monday by unknown assailants. According to a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the attackers struck without provocation, leaving the two men dead in cold blood.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano,” Governor Yusuf said. “They were innocent, peace-loving citizens whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work in any part of Nigeria.”
The Governor further assured that the Kano State Government is committed to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice, and is working in close collaboration with security agencies and the Benue State Government.
To honor the deceased, Governor Yusuf announced he would personally lead a high-powered delegation, including the victims’ families, to the funeral prayers scheduled for today at the National Mosque in Abuja.
While expressing his condolences to the grieving families, the Governor also extended sympathy to prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, who is the father of the two slain men. He described the loss as a tragedy not only for the families but for Kano State and the entire country.
“This government will not rest until justice is served. We call for calm and restraint as we work to ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law,” the statement added.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that every Nigerian citizen has the right to live and move freely across the country without fear of discrimination or violence.
