Man Burns Down House He Built for Lover in Taraba State

Jalingo, Taraba State A tragic incident has occurred in Taraba State after a young man allegedly set ablaze a house he built and furnished for his girlfriend, following her decision to end their relationship and move in with another man.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect — whose name was yet to be confirmed as of press time — had been in a long-term relationship with the lady. During their relationship, he reportedly invested heavily in constructing and furnishing a modern house for her, with hopes that they would live together as husband and wife.

However, shortly after the completion of the building, the lady allegedly broke up with him and began a new relationship. Reports say she later moved into the same house with her new boyfriend — a development that infuriated her former lover.

In a fit of rage, the heartbroken man allegedly stormed the property at night and set it on fire, reducing the entire building to ashes. Residents of the area in Taraba State confirmed that although no life was lost, the house and all its contents were completely destroyed before firefighters could intervene.

One of the neighbors, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said:

“We saw the fire around midnight and tried to help, but it was too late. The man had spent a lot of money building that house. Everyone knew he built it for the lady. It’s a sad situation

Authorities from the Taraba State Police Command have reportedly launched an investigation into the incident, vowing to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice is served.

Police spokesperson, DSP Usman Abdullahi, confirmed the arson case, noting that officers were already on the trail of the suspect.

“We are aware of the incident. The suspect fled after committing the act, but we are making efforts to arrest him and bring him to justice,” Abdullahi said.

The shocking event has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the act and advising young people to avoid making extreme sacrifices for romantic relationships.
