Man drowns in Kwara river

On Tuesday night, the Kwara State Fire Service recovered the lifeless body of an unidentified man from the Asa River in Ilorin, the state capital.

The man, reportedly around 45 years old, was discovered following a report from officials of the state Ministry of Environment.

According to Hassan Adekunle, spokesperson for the State Fire Service, ministry officials alerted the Fire Service after finding the body floating in the river.

“Upon receiving the report, a team of firefighters was promptly dispatched to the site to prevent any potential environmental hazards.

The crew successfully retrieved the body from the water,” Adekunle stated.

The officials from the Ministry of Environment arrived at the Fire Service’s operational center in a vehicle with the registration number 17B-D4KW to report the incident.

After the body was recovered, it was handed over to the Ministry of Environment, which is now awaiting formal identification and claims from the deceased’s family.

Falade Olumuyiwa, director of the Kwara State Fire Service, took this incident as an opportunity to urge the residents of Kwara State to prioritize safety and exercise caution in their daily activities, particularly advising against sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells.
