
Man Killed After Attacking Cleric Inside Kano Mosque
An elderly Islamic cleric, identified as Ladan Zubairu, was killed on Monday morning after he was attacked inside Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters area of Kano State.
Witnesses said the incident occurred shortly after dawn prayers when the cleric went out to call worshippers to prayer. After completing the first call, he reportedly sat briefly inside the mosque when a man entered and attacked him with a weapon.
The cleric sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Following the incident, residents of the area reportedly chased the suspect, who was later killed by an angry mob. The suspect’s residence was also set ablaze, causing tension in the community before security operatives intervened and restored calm.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said police officers swiftly moved to the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

He stated that the bodies of both the cleric and the suspect were recovered and taken to the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered a full investigation into the incident, assuring that anyone found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Police authorities have appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
