Man Kills Wife with Machete, Flees in Yobe — Police

The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed that a 55-year-old man, Hamidu Ali, fatally attacked his 40-year-old wife with a machete before fleeing the scene in Babangida, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, said the incident occurred on the morning of Friday, June 28, 2025.
“At about 11 a.m., the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from residents of Koriyel Village, reporting that Hamidu Ali had attacked and killed his wife for yet-to-be-determined reasons before escaping,” the statement read.
Abdulkarim added that police operatives had launched a manhunt for the suspect. “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend him,” he said.
In a separate incident, the command also confirmed the arrest of two suspects in Fika Local Government Area for allegedly killing a man over a phone theft accusation.
“On June 27, 2025, at around 5 p.m., operatives from the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters arrested Musa Sule, 25, and Muntari Suleman, 30, both from Ngalda Town, for the brutal killing of a victim they accused of stealing a cellphone and a power bank,” Abdulkarim stated.
He noted that the suspects had confessed to the crime and were being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) ahead of prosecution.

Reacting to both incidents, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“We call on the good people of Yobe to resolve disputes peacefully and cooperate with law enforcement to sustain peace and order in the state. Thank you for your continued support,” he said.
