Mass Arrests as Kwara Launches Security Operation in Ifelodun, Edu, Patigi

Kwara State has launched a sweeping security operation across Ifelodun, Edu, Patigi, and other flashpoint areas, leading to the arrest of over 20 suspects, including alleged gun runners and their logistics allies.

According to an intelligence report the renewed crackdown spearheaded by the state government in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser has seen the deployment of nearly 400 special operatives to curtail rising insecurity in border communities.

“We are to have these local governments on a lockdown. The operation is just getting underway, and we have more than 20 arrests already. The suspects are giving useful information, and many of them were caught with ammunition and supplies meant for criminals around Babanla (Ifelodun),” the report disclosed.

Ten of the suspects are being transferred to Abuja for further interrogation alongside weapons and logistics recovered from them.

In a major breakthrough, the operation has also led to the unconditional release of several captives held by the criminal gangs, following intense pressure on their hideouts.

A government official said the security initiative includes collaboration with forces in neighbouring Kogi and Niger States to prevent escape routes for the criminals. “The operation is only starting from Ifelodun. We are also moving to Edu and Patigi, while Eruku axis is on lockdown to ensure that these criminals do not escape to Kogi,” the source revealed.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had recently assured residents that the government is pulling every string to flush out criminal elements from forests and border areas in the state.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement of unknown individuals to security agencies.
