Massive Outage Hits Elon Musk’s X Platform, Users Left Frustrated

Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, suffered widespread outages on Monday morning, affecting thousands of users in the United States and the United Kingdom.

According to platform monitor Downdetector, tens of thousands of users in the U.S. reported technical issues, while over 8,000 reports came from the U.K. just before 14:00 GMT. The disruptions lasted well into the afternoon for some users.

During the outage, many users encountered loading errors while trying to refresh their feeds on both the app and desktop site.

Musk attributed the service disruption to a large-scale cyber-attack.

“We’re not sure exactly what happened, but there was a massive cyber-attack to try and bring down the X system with [Internet Protocol] addresses originating in the Ukraine area,” Musk said during an interview

The billionaire further suggested that “either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved” but did not provide evidence to support the claim.

Musk, who has frequently criticized Ukraine and its President Volodymyr Zelensky, did not specify whether he believed state actors were behind the attack. The BBC has reportedly reached out to the Ukrainian embassy in Washington, D.C., for a response.
