Mbappe: ‘No Bitterness’ Over PSG’s Champions League Win After My Departure
France captain Kylian Mbappe insists he harbors no bitterness over Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League triumph, which came just a year after his move to Real Madrid.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of France’s Nations League third-place playoff against Germany in Stuttgart, Mbappe said, “I didn’t leave too soon; my story with PSG had simply come to an end. I’m not bitter. I had reached the end of the road.”
PSG secured their first-ever Champions League title last Saturday with a commanding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in Munich.
“I gave everything I had. It was just fate that the victory came after I left,” Mbappe said. “PSG winning without me doesn’t bother me. I was genuinely happy for them. They deserved it.”
“They’ve had so many tough years, and I was there for many of them. I played in every Champions League stage with Paris—just not the final triumph. They’re now the best team in Europe. I can’t recall seeing a team dominate a major final like that.”
Mbappe has made no secret of his ambition to win Europe’s top club competition. The closest he came during his time in Paris was in 2020, when PSG lost to Bayern Munich in the final.
The 26-year-old joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 in pursuit of Champions League glory.

However, the Spanish giants were eliminated by Arsenal in the quarter-finals, and the season ended without a trophy—their first campaign without silverware in four years.
