Mike Okiro Denies Court Order Blocking Ohanaeze Ndigbo Election Participation, Calls it a Hoax

Former Inspector General of Police and aspirant for the President-General position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Sir Mike Okiro, has debunked reports of a court order barring him from participating in the recently concluded election, describing it as a hoax.

Speaking during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, Okiro expressed disappointment over the false and misleading reports, emphasizing his compliance with the purported court injunction due to his commitment to the rule of law.

“In the evening of Tuesday 7th January, 2025, my attention was drawn to a media news where it was said that I was barred from the election into the post of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo by a court order issued at Enugu High Court,” Okiro explained.

He recounted the steps he took, including engaging his lawyer to vacate the alleged court order, only to later discover there was no such order in the court proceedings.

“By the close of work on Friday 10th January, 2025, my lawyer was able to obtain the court proceedings while the election had been concluded without me. Ladies and gentlemen, Ndigbo worldwide, my supporters, Nigerians, there was no court order at all in the court proceedings. NO COURT ORDER BARRING ME FROM THE ELECTION,” Okiro stated.

The former IGP called out those responsible for spreading the false information, urging the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Bar Association to take appropriate action against the perpetrators.

“The Nigerian media should beware of the information they feed to the public. Nigerians themselves should be wary of what they read and believe,” he advised.

Okiro’s statement emphasis on the importance of accurate reporting and accountability within the legal and media spheres, as well as his unwavering dedication to lawful conduct and the unity of Ndigbo.
