Mob attack hospital attendants over removing of dead body’s testicles
According to a report by our corespondent, chaos erupted yesterday at a mortuary located between Afoukwu and Abayi Okoroato village along the Aba-Ikot Ekpene highway when family members discovered that their deceased relative’s testicle had been removed.
The shocking discovery triggered violent reactions from local youths who nearly lynched three mortuary attendants at the facility in Obingwa council area of Abia State.
The family had arrived at the mortuary to collect their son’s remains for burial when one of his sisters made what would prove to be a crucial request, she insisted that the body be undressed for inspection before leaving the premises.
When family members removed the corpse from its coffin and examined it, they were horrified to find one testicle missing from the body.
“We don’t know that this mortuary is involved in such evil business; people have been suspecting him,” one youth told reporters at the scene.
“It is an abomination in Igbo land to sever the body part of a dead person.”
Some attackers connected the incident to suspicions they had long harbored about the mortuary’s operations.
“Now, we have seen what he has done and why his business is flourishing,” stated another youth.
“He was operating his mortuary business in that abandoned filling station. He and his attendants will answer for their crimes.”
News of the disturbing discovery spread quickly through surrounding communities, prompting concerned relatives to rush to the facility.
A man identified only as Iheanyi said that he went to relocate his elder brother’s remains to another mortuary, fearing that the body might have been tampered with as well.
