MultiChoice Slashes DStv Decoder Price by 50% to Boost Subscriptions

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50 per cent reduction in the price of its DStv decoder, lowering it from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.
The move is aimed at attracting new subscribers and addressing the recent decline in its customer base.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, described the price cut as part of a broader effort to reward customer loyalty and provide greater value.
“We want our customers to feel valued and have access to quality entertainment every day,” Ugbe said. “Our ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible, showing that DStv offers more than just sports — from movies and dramas to children’s shows and news.”
He added that the platform is repositioning itself as a hub for daily value, encouraging broader content exploration across various genres.
As part of the promotional campaign, MultiChoice also introduced a free package upgrade offer. Subscribers who renew their current package in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025, will be automatically upgraded to the next subscription tier at no extra cost.
The company noted that both the decoder price slash and the upgrade incentive are responses to the economic challenges affecting many Nigerian households.

The development follows a subscriber loss of 1.4 million between March 2023 and March 2025. It also comes on the heels of three price increases in 12 months — in April 2023, November 2023, and again in April 2024, which took effect on May 1.
