The Nasarawa State Police Command has formally arraigned Timilehin Emmanuel, the primary suspect in the murder of Salome Adaidu, at a High Court sitting in Lafia, the state capital. The arraignment took place on Thursday, marking a significant step in the legal proceedings following the tragic incident that shocked the local community.

Salome Adaidu, a resident of Lafia, was reported missing last month, and her lifeless body was discovered days later under suspicious circumstances. After a thorough investigation by the Nasarawa State Police Command, Timilehin Emmanuel was arrested and charged with culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution presented preliminary evidence linking the suspect to the crime, including eyewitness accounts and forensic findings. The prosecution counsel emphasized the severity of the case, urging the court to ensure justice is served.

The defense counsel, however, pleaded for bail on behalf of the accused, citing the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The judge, after listening to arguments from both sides, reserved ruling on the bail application for the next hearing date, scheduled for February 5, 2025.

Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, the spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ramatu Jibrin, reaffirmed the commitment of the police to ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation. She urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to run its course.

Salome Adaidu’s tragic death has sparked widespread calls for justice and heightened awareness about personal safety within the community. Local advocacy groups and residents have called for stricter measures to address violent crimes and ensure the safety of all citizens.

The case has drawn significant attention across the state, with many expressing hope that the legal system will deliver a fair and just resolution for the victim’s family.
