Musawa Secures Funding for Nigerian Filmmakers

The Honourable Minister for Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, has successfully secured a $200 million financing facility to bolster Nigeria’s creative industry.

The funding, obtained through the African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim Bank), aims to drive growth and innovation in the nation’s burgeoning creative sector.

Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board, has called on filmmakers to leverage this opportunity in 2025. “Stakeholders should access the funding by securing grants for their productions,” he urged.

Dr. Husseini emphasized the importance of collaboration and skill development to bridge the gap between Nollywood and global film industries. “To compete with international film industries, there is the need for collaboration among Nigerian producers,” he said, citing the successful example of The Wedding Party, co-produced by four major companies.

With this funding initiative, the Nigerian film industry is poised to expand its global footprint and create more opportunities for creative professionals.
