Music Star Muma Gee Alleges Police Brutality in Port Harcourt
Renowned musician High Chief Dr. Muma Gee has spoken out against what she describes as a violation of her fundamental human rights and a serious threat to her life.
The singer recounted a harrowing experience with officers of the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Nigerian Police, who allegedly attacked her vehicle in Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to Muma Gee, the incident occurred late Tuesday evening as she was dropping off her relatives at Rumuokoro Junction, off East-West Road, after returning from her brother’s funeral in Odiabidi Village, Ahoada East.
“I was just trying to park when, suddenly, armed police officers jumped down from their van, rushed at my vehicle and began violently hitting it with their guns, demanding that I wind down my glass,” she said.
She explained that after rolling down her window, two officers forcefully entered her car and began searching it while others stood by, their guns cocked, threatening to shoot if she made any move.
“When they noticed I had a law student sticker, they jumped in their van and took off. I ran after them and drove into their CTU along Rumuokoro Rumoahoro axis.”
Muma Gee recounted that when she arrived at the CTU office, security personnel on duty denied that any police vehicle had entered. Despite her insistence, they refused to allow her to report the incident to a superior officer. She then proceeded to the Rumuokoro Police Station to make an official complaint.
“As I speak to you now, my car is tragically damaged due to the brutal force and constant pounding by their guns while they attempted to force their way in,” she lamented.

The music star has called on the Inspector General of Police and other relevant authorities to check the excesses of officers, warning that unchecked police brutality puts citizens’ lives and properties at risk.
She condemned what she described as “high-level rascality, irresponsibility, and extortion” by some officers and questioned how law enforcement can function properly if those meant to protect citizens operate with impunity.
“If these excesses are not checkmated, then the safety of Nigerians remains in jeopardy,” she warned.
