A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) General Court Martial sentenced Air Craftman Benard Kalu to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend, Corporal Oladipupo S. A.Kalu shot and killed Oladipupo at her home on the Air Force Base in Makurdi, alleging she was having an affair with another man.
It was gathered that Kalu has faced 8 counts, including:murder,house breaking,attempted murder,failure to perform military duty,loss of service property,disobedience of service order and prejudice of service discipline (2 counts).The prosecution presented 13 witnesses, while the defence presented 3, including Kalu.
However,the court found Kalu guilty on 6 of the 8 counts and sentenced him to death by hanging, subject to confirmation by the conveying authority.

The defence counsel urged the court to consider mercy, citing Kalu’s status as a first-time offender and breadwinner of his family. However, the court did not grant this plea.
