NAFDAC alerts Nigerians on circulation of fake Cowbell milk

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about the circulation of counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets in the market.
In a public alert issued on Friday, the agency said Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, the manufacturer and brand owner of Cowbell Milk, notified it of the fake products, which closely resemble the genuine sachets and illegally carry the brand name, packaging design, NAFDAC registration number, and trademark.
According to NAFDAC, the counterfeit sachets are different from the original ones in several ways. While genuine Cowbell Milk is creamy, bears the new “Our Creamy Goodness” PNG design, has laser-printed batch details, and features automated sealing and cutting, the fake product is non-creamy, uses the old “Our Milk” design, carries ink-printed batch details, has poorly placed coding, and shows signs of manual sealing and cutting.
The agency warned that consuming the counterfeit milk poses serious health risks as it may contain toxic chemicals, unsafe additives, or diluted ingredients. Such risks include food poisoning, allergic reactions, organ damage, and in severe cases, death—especially for infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
NAFDAC has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and remove the fake products from circulation.
It also urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to be vigilant and buy food products only from authorised sources.
