Name the Saboteurs, Olanipekun Tells FG
Legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun, has urged the Federal Government to publicly expose and prosecute individuals sabotaging the nation’s security efforts, insisting that Nigeria cannot win the war against terrorism and banditry without naming those sponsoring it.
Olanipekun made the call in Ikere-Ekiti during the annual Wole Olanipekun Scholarship Scheme, where he expressed deep concern over the persistent insecurity devastating parts of the country despite heavy government investment in security operations.
He criticised the government’s reluctance to identify those allegedly aiding and financing terrorism, noting that shielding such saboteurs only strengthens criminal networks and undermines public trust in national institutions.
According to him, Nigeria has robust intelligence systems capable of unmasking these actors, but what is lacking is the political will to expose them.
Olanipekun stressed that in advanced countries, no one undermines national security and walks free, urging the government to adopt a more decisive and transparent approach.
He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to rise to the occasion by identifying and prosecuting those behind the funding and coordination of criminal groups, saying such action would mark a major turning point in restoring peace and stability.
The senior advocate noted that exposing the saboteurs would not only deter others but also rebuild public confidence in the government’s resolve to end insecurity across the country.
