Nasarawa police nab man for scamming job seekers 300k each using commissioner of police
A Nasarawa state resident, identified as Yusuf Idris, has been arrested by policemen attached to the State police command for allegedly defrauding some jobseekers the sum of N300,000 promising to secure employment for them in the Nigeria Police Force and Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Rahman Nansel, in a statement made available to Journalists in Lafia the state capital on Sunday, indicted that the suspect also resorted to using the name of the state Commissioner of Police in his fraudulent deals.
Nansel, explained that Idris was nabbed when he lured a victim to the Nasarawa State Police Command headquarters in a bid to convince the victim of his ability to secure employment in the force adding that Idris while lurking around the premises of the command headquarters was nabbed by operatives from the State Intelligence Department.
Investigations were conducted by the police following Idris arrest and it was discovered that the suspect had allegedly collected N300,000 from a victim and also asked the victim to bring another jobseeker seeking employment into the police force.
He continued, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had fraudulently obtained the sum of N300,000 from one Monday Akinde, ‘M’, of Obi Local Government Council with a promise to secure a job for him at the Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board, and thereafter tricked the same victim into bringing someone seeking recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force where he stated that the Commissioner of Police had given him a slot, and he’s willing to sell it for N500,000.
“In a bid to convince his victim of the authenticity of his claims, the suspect lured the victim to the State Police Command Headquarters and left him at the entrance of the command.
“The suspect then entered the Command Headquarters and was lurking around before he was consequently arrested, and the aforementioned confessions were made.”
Nansel added that after the suspect was thoroughly searched, exhibits including the sum of N300,000 and two fake prom letters were found on him. He however urged members of the public who might have fallen victim to the suspect’s antics to come forward.
“A search was immediately conducted on him where two fake promotion letters from people working at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital which he claimed to have got on Facebook and a cash sum of N300,000 were recovered from him as exhibits.
“In view of the above, CP Nadada is hereby calling on members of the public who might have fallen victim to the suspect to come forward with their complaints and urged the public to be wary of employment racketeers and be mindful of posting sensitive information about themselves on social media,” Nansel noted. The spokesperson warned individuals who might be planning “to toe the path of the arrested suspect to turn a new lease of life; as anyone caught will not be spared.”
