Nasarawa Secures $160,000 Grant to Lead Clean Energy Revolution
The Nasarawa State government has secured a $160,000 grant from the African Climate Foundation to develop a cutting-edge climate investment platform aimed at advancing clean energy solutions and mitigating the effects of climate change.
The initiative, supported by the Nigerian Off-Grid Market Acceleration Program (NOMAP) and Murty International Ltd, will deliver three key objectives:
– A science-based climate policy and action plan for the state
– A climate financing strategy to attract local and international investments
– Technical support and capacity building for businesses adopting energy-efficient technologies
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Lafia, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NASIDA, Ibrahim Abdullahi, highlighted the significance of this initiative.
“The grant in question is from the African Climate Foundation, it was given to Multi International to help develop the Nasarawa State climate investment platform, it’s the first of its kind, there is no state in Nigeria that has developed such before, the state is going to be the first.
“I’m excited that the African Climate Foundation has given such a grant to Multi International to help develop an investment platform for Nasarawa State, so we are beneficiaries of this initiative and we will utilize this initiative for the growth and benefits of Nasarawa State.”
Abdullahi further emphasized that the platform will serve as a hub for climate-smart projects, including sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly construction, and green investments. He stressed the importance of integrating climate resilience into development planning to prevent economic losses caused by climate-related disasters such as flooding.

In a related effort, the Director General of the Nasarawa State Human Capital Development Agency, Habiba Sulieman, revealed that her agency has partnered with the federal government to distribute climate-friendly cookstoves. These stoves reduce firewood use by 80%, helping to combat deforestation, which remains a major environmental challenge in Nigeria.
With this pioneering initiative, Nasarawa State is setting a precedent in climate action and sustainable development, positioning itself as a leader in Nigeria’s transition to clean energy.
