Nationwide SIM Services Disrupted as Telcos Switch to New NIMC Verification Platform

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has announced a temporary nationwide disruption in SIM-related services across all mobile networks.

This was made known in a statement released on Tuesday by ALTON Chairman, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Damian Udeh.

According to Adebayo, the disruption is due to a directive from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) instructing mobile operators to transition to a new identity verification platform.

He explained that while the platform is expected to enhance the integrity and efficiency of Nigeria’s identity management system, the migration has caused technical difficulties affecting SIM service availability.

“The new platform aims to improve the integrity and efficiency of identity management systems.

However, the transition has temporarily hindered Mobile Network Operators from offering seamless SIM-related services,” he said.

As a result, services such as SIM swaps, replacements, new SIM activations and other related processes will be suspended until the technical issues are resolved.

“ALTON and member firms are working with the Nigerian Communications Commission, NIMC, and other authorities to fix the integration issues.

We regret the inconvenience and urge subscribers to delay SIM-related requests until further notice,” Adebayo added.

He reassured the public of the industry’s commitment to providing secure and high-quality telecommunications services, adding that timely updates will be issued as progress is made.
