Lagos to Finalise Harmonised School Calendar in Two Weeks

The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, has announced that a harmonised academic calendar for schools across the state will be finalised and approved within the next two weeks.

Speaking at the final stakeholders’ meeting for the 2025/2026 Harmonised Academic Calendar, held at the Education Resource Centre in Ojodu, Alli-Balogun revealed that key players in the education sector had reached a consensus on adopting a unified academic schedule.

The development was shared in a statement by Adepeju Adeyemi from the Public Affairs Unit of the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), highlighting that the meeting marked the concluding phase of the calendar’s formulation, pending formal approval from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

The Lagos State Commissioner for basic and secondary education reiterated his commitment to teacher welfare, stressing the necessity of a mandatory two-month break after the third term.

“Our teachers deserve time to rest, plan, re-strategise, and bond with their families. The extended third-term holiday is structured with this in mind. Sadly, academic activities often spill into this period, which must be addressed and discouraged,” he said.
