NCC Unveils E-Health Platform at Ondo Specialist Hospital to Improve Patient Care and Cut Waiting Time
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has donated and launched a state-of-the-art E-Health Solution at the Ondo State-owned Specialist Hospital, aiming to reduce long queues and improve healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, described the initiative as a transformative step toward revolutionising the country’s healthcare system through Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Dr. Maida, who was represented by the Project Director of the NCC, Philip Eretan, noted that the commission deployed the digital platform to make healthcare services more accessible, efficient and effective.
“Completion of this e-Health Project is a testament to NCC’s commitment to driving innovation, research and growth in our digital economy.
“This is two-pronged. First, ICT can better integrate the health sector into the digital economy to enjoy the ubiquity that other sectors benefit from.
“Secondly, healthy citizens contribute better to the digital economy even as they access care from e-health platforms.
“We enhance the quality of medical services and ensure that services are accessible to all.
“We hope this project will promote NCC’s drive to speed up adoption of ICT in health.
“Implementation of e-health solutions will streamline medical processes, enhance patient care, and facilitate efficient use of health records.”
Acting Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Adesina Akintan, lauded the initiative as a landmark development. Represented by the Director of Research and Training, Dr. Ndiddi Okunnugba, he said the new system would significantly improve patient care through data-driven decision-making.
He also appealed to the NCC to provide staff training for effective implementation.
According to him, the platform will help doctors and healthcare workers share data, monitor patient progress, and coordinate better healthcare outcomes.
The NCC’s e-Health initiative is part of its broader strategy to use technology to drive national development, with healthcare as a key focus area.
