NDDC Refutes Allegations of Irregularities in Calabar Projects

The Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Governing Board, Chiedu Ebie, has dismissed allegations of irregularities in recently commissioned road projects in Calabar South and Calabar Municipality, Cross River State.

Speaking during the NDDC@25 celebration and project commissioning in Bayelsa State, Ebie criticized the spread of false narratives and warned against politicizing development efforts, which he described as detrimental to the progress of the Niger Delta.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ebie affirmed that all NDDC projects—including those in Calabar—complied with due process from procurement through execution.

He praised the contractors and NDDC staff for upholding high standards and following regulatory guidelines, stating unequivocally that the projects were executed by the Commission.

His comments were in response to accusations from Orok Duke, the NDDC Board member representing Cross River State, who had claimed the Calabar projects bypassed due process and were not executed by the Commission.

The Chairman of the NDDC rejected these claims as misleading and urged all stakeholders to rely on verified facts and support the Commission’s mission to deliver quality infrastructure and sustainable development throughout the Niger Delta.

The NDDC also addressed the disruption of commissioning ceremonies for the Idang and Nyangshang roads in Calabar. According to eyewitnesses, individuals believed to be acting under orders from certain state and local officials disrupted the events by tearing down billboards featuring President Bola Tinubu and blocking access to the sites with heavy machinery.

The Commission condemned the incident as a blatant show of disrespect toward federal authority and a direct challenge to the government’s efforts to bring meaningful development to the region.
