Oyo Govt Impounds Rams, Cow Over Environmental Violations

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) on Wednesday seized three rams and a cow in the Oluyole area of Ibadan for violating environmental regulations.
OYRLEA Chairperson, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd.), made this known while leading an enforcement team to the area. She was accompanied by the Chairman of the State Environmental Task Force, DCP Francis Ojomo (retd.).
According to Aderemi, the move followed multiple petitions from residents of Unique Estate, Oluyole, complaining about the nuisance caused by open grazing and livestock roaming in residential areas.
She issued a seven-day ultimatum to the owner of the impounded animals to claim them or risk forfeiture and a possible fine.
In a related enforcement action, residents of Abidiodan in Lagelu Local Government Area were also given a seven-day deadline to remove shanties built on road setbacks. Aderemi noted that these structures have become havens for criminal activities and illegal operations.
She reiterated the state government’s commitment to strict enforcement of environmental and sanitation laws, including the anti-open grazing regulations.
“Enforcement against street trading, open rearing, and other environmental infractions has just begun,” she stated, adding that violators would be prosecuted.
Aderemi also recalled the earlier sensitisation campaign launched at Bodija Market in January as part of efforts to educate the public before enforcement actions commenced.
