NDLEA arrests 26 suspected drug traffickers, destroys over 41,000kg narcotics in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it arrested no fewer than 26 suspected drug traffickers in Edo State in August 2025.

State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday while presenting the agency’s monthly progress report in Benin.

According to him, the suspects comprised 22 men and four women. He added that a total of 41,410.53 kilogrammes of narcotic substances were seized during the month under review.

A breakdown of the seizures showed that cannabis accounted for more than 99 percent, with 41,387.36 kilogrammes recovered. Other drugs confiscated included 22.253kg of Tramadol, 0.3085kg of Swinol, 0.0117kg of Danabol, 0.5163kg of Diazepam, 0.0811kg of Methamphetamine, as well as 400ml of Pentazocine and 10 litres of Codeine syrup.

In addition, Ofoyeju said operatives destroyed four illegal cannabis farms covering 15.85 hectares in Ebule Forest, Owan West Local Government Area. The farms had an estimated yield of 39,631.83kg of cannabis.

Highlighting notable arrests, the commander said 69 bags of skunk were evacuated from a three-bedroom bungalow in Uzebba, Owan West LGA. A 54-year-old woman, identified as Stella Sunday, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

He further revealed that the command also stormed a notorious drug den at RCC Junction, Sapele Road, Benin City, where three suspects were arrested. Items recovered at the scene included 2.05kg of cannabis, 46g of methamphetamine, 5g of Danabol, 52g of Swinol, 745g of Tramadol, and 0.4 litres of Codeine.
