FMN Reaffirms Food Security Drive, Supports 400,000 Farmers

Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) has reiterated its commitment to advancing food security and strengthening local content through sustained investments in agriculture and agro-allied industries.

In a statement, the Group said its “Feeding the Nation Every Day” agenda remains central to its 65-year strategy of reducing reliance on imported raw materials.

Group Managing Director/CEO, Boye Olusanya, described FMN as “more than a company to Nigeria, but also a strong ally in growth and development,” noting that for over six decades, the company has provided livelihoods for millions through direct and indirect employment.

FMN’s agricultural journey began in 1978 with the acquisition of a 10,000-hectare farm in Kaboji, Niger State, aimed at boosting the sugar supply chain and cutting import dependence. Since then, the Group has expanded into the cultivation of soya beans, palm fruits, cassava, wheat, maize, sugarcane, and sorghum, alongside the aggregation and distribution of locally sourced grains.

The company highlighted its transformative outgrower programme and agronomy support systems, which have empowered more than 400,000 farmers with inputs, training, and market access. These farmers, it added, supply raw materials for its Golden Penny Foods brand.

Through Golden Agri Inputs Limited, a subsidiary of FMN Agro Ltd, the Group has also developed farming schemes for over 50,000 farmers, offering hybrid seed varieties, improved agronomy practices, storage facilities, and guaranteed markets for key crops.

Olusanya reaffirmed FMN’s resolve, saying the Group remains “unwaveringly committed to local content development and the attainment of food self-sufficiency in Nigeria, and progressively across Africa.”
