NGF Mourns Kano Athletes Killed in Road Accident

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed profound grief over the tragic death of several Kano State athletes who lost their lives in a road accident on Saturday.

The athletes were returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun State when the crash occurred at Dakatsalle Bridge in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.

Reports indicate that at least 19 athletes were killed in the fatal accident.

Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, confirmed the incident, noting that the bus involved was transporting over 30 members of the state’s sports contingent.

In a statement released on Saturday and personally signed by him, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, offered condolences to the bereaved families, the Kano State Government, and the wider sports community.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the athletes, the state government, and the sports community in Kano State and Nigeria,” the statement read.

“We pray to Allaah to grant eternal rest to the souls of the departed and provide strength and comfort to their families during this difficult time.”
